A while ago I posted this blog, and now I have even greater reason to talk about the importance of vaccinating your children. Check out my friends post about it....click here. This post is LONG overdue but I have been sick with thing or another for the post couple of months and I am now just getting to it. Instead of typing it all just check out the 2 post and tell me what you think.

Oh, and one more thing. I'm not a huge proponent of the Varicella vaccination being mandatory. My kids had it because it's standard at our Pediatric clinic and when I saw my son's immunization record for the first time I came unglued. I wouldn't have chosen that vaccine. This year Wyoming's Public Health Department made it mandatory which is a decision I don't agree with. They were one of the last states to make it mandatory as well.
I 100% support vaccinating against diseases that have been epidemic or pandemic and have killed multitudes of people. I do not support placing my kids in a bubble. If we start vaccinating against every possible childhood illness they'll never build up any immunity to anything. It's extremely rare for a child to die from chicken pox, it is less rare for an adult to die from it. The vaccine is young and unproven in later stages of life. They have no idea if it will last in to adulthood. What happens when it doesn't? There will be an entire generation of people with Varicella as adults who are a whole lot sicker and in a whole lot more danger than they would have been if they'd had it and been done with it at 5 years old and we could see it become epidemic in a way it never would have been. Heck, my mom sent me to Chicken Pox parties and I lived through it (although it is miserable I'll give them that).
It's kind of like going to the gas station and seeing the anti bacterial foam next to the pumps. Yes it will kill bacteria on your hands, but if you are never exposed to anything you will have no immune system and when you do get sick (which you will) it will be that much worse. Part of the reason we have Super Bugs is over treatment and excessive avoidance of any kind of illness. The germs are out there and they have been for hundreds of years. We lived through childhood without getting slathered in antibacterial goo every 5 seconds and so will our kids if we stop using it so freely. If we don't, we will see germs become resistant to it as well and when they mutate they become so much more dangerous.
Sorry those are so long! Hope that all makes sense :o)
Hmmm... I had a prior comment but it apparently didn't post so I'll have to re-write it, but I have to take Joey to the doctor so I'll have to do it when I get home! Sorry that the comment that did post makes NO sense!
I'll just quickly say I am 100% pro-vaccine and when I get home I'll tell you why, again!
TOTALLY agree with Steph here. I support vaxing too, but I refuse to vaccinate for everything because doctors/drug companies tell me to for the reasons Steph has mentioned and a few of my own.
Fuuny thing Steph....I got your other book (comment) sent to my email but it didn't show up here. Hum? I see both sides of things. Did you read my friends blog....she is the one who does vaccinate and her sweet little girl still get the things. That is so scary. Thanks for sharing. I will copy and post your other comment if you want me to.
